FitzGerald & Sons Plumbing Company was founded in 1984 by Richard P. FitzGerald (Sr.) with the intention of building a full service plumbing contracting company servicing all market sectors in the North Georgia area.

Richard P. FitzGerald (Sr.) had worked as the general superintendent for James McCullagh Company, Inc. for over thirty years. James McCullagh Company, Inc. was one of the largest plumbing and mechanical contracting companies in the NY metro area. As general superintendent Richard P. FitzGerald (Sr.) ran the field operations labor force on projects ranging from Nassau Coliseum, Cedar Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant, and Stony Brook University Hospital and Health Science Center.

Richard P. FitzGerald (Sr.) was soon joined by his two sons, Richard P. FitzGerald Jr. and Michael S. FitzGerald in 1985 and 1986 respectively. In the first few years in business, FitzGerald & Sons Plumbing Company aggressively pursued gaining market share for the Service Division. The Construction Division started slowly performing plumbing work on government postal facilities, industrial plant expansions, and medium sized commercial work. Over the next five years 1985 – 1990, FitzGerald & Sons Plumbing Company steadily grew in terms of its available employee base, management capacity, and ability to handle larger projects.
